First steps...

  1. The first 10-30 days after hiring your SENC should be considered the "fact-gathering" phase
  2. Request copies of school records; all of them
  3. Send a working copy of those records to the SENC for a diagnostic assessment of the records; school records need to evaluted by a trained professional in order to provide the most appropriate recommendations and action steps for you to take
  4. Work with your SENC to develop an educational blueprint so you effectivley advocate for your child with authority and conviction

Claudia offers private training and consultation to parents and their support person(s) to prepare them for their child's upcoming IEP, 504, SST, SARB, Transition, or other school meetings.  You and your support team will learn how to... 

  • "take a history" from your child's school records
  • write case-specific documenting letters to accurately reflect your case-in-point
  • write case-specific parent and/or student attachments and reports to accurately reflect your case-in-point
  • state your concerns and wishes in "language" the school team will understand and act on
  • initiate and do compliance tracking of the IEP, 504, or other school plan
  • negotiate with the right school people at the right time
  • identify and choose educational strategies and options
  • draft an "educational blueprint " for your child
  • identify the case-specific barriers impeding your child's progress or success
  • communicate and advocate in a style that suits you and your goals
  • handle conflict and disagreement 
  • be a parent advocate with authority

Private sessions with Claudia can include your child's health providers, therapists, family members, friends, and other support persons you plan on taking with you to the school meeting.  Claudia can also work with your student to provide case-specific services and assessments. 

 

Professional consulting services are provided to you and your support team on an as per needed basis or as a retainer client.  This affords the opportunity for you to acquire cost-effective and timely services to meet essential educational timelines for your child within the IEP or 504 process.

 

 Services are designed to be case specific and may include some or all of the following... 

  • Consultation appointments* by person, phone, or e-mail
  • Individual Needs Assessment Protocol (INAP)- comprehensive diagnositic assessment of your child’s records
  • Assistance in drafting appropriate communications to the school
  • Assistance in drafting appropriate student and parent attachments and reports
  • Preparing you and your support person(s) to attend school meetings- IEP, 504, SARB, SST, etc
  • Consulting with your child's care-providers- doctors, therapists, counselors, tutors, etc
  • Case specific recommendations
  •  A parent workbook
  • Additional services individually designed to meet you and your child's needs- advocacy skills, K-12 CAMS assessment, Socialization Skills through Acting and Drama, Transition Coaching, Student-directed IEPs and 504 Plans, Assistive Technology Assessments
